I'm not dead, the world just sucks right now.
That, and when I've been writing rpg stuff at all it's mostly been for a "Final Fantasy game+setting running on Lindwyrm" personal project; there's also been a couple of non-rpg writing things, and also expanding my videogame hoard again. But highly a case of "the world sucks" with a side-order of "and summer can fuck itself".
But enough of that! September means Swordtember, and I miiiiight have another thing percolating for the month (we'll see), and here I am with the first third of Swordtember's swords in nice punchy and system-neutral description ~
Ten Swords, Singular And Otherwise
01. Sea-Father's Fang: A cutlass of deeply blue-green shell, wickedly honed. Sacrifice blood (yours) to its edge to call a tempest or cause a patch of ships' timbers the size of yourself to rot.
02. Kiriv, The Verdant: This dark shortsword is anathema to the lordly; and if left to rest instead, grows jade mosses all around -- six filling meals a day, in an ever-expanding carpet. Sheathe in brass to halt the growth.
03. Taurh's Blade: A plain steel bastard sword, grip wrapped in silver wire, of basic enchantments -- but a beloved memento of Taurh, the Knight Of Steel. The Knight seeks the blade and the favour of the immortal metal swordmaster is no small thing.
04. Of-The-First: Sharpened from a inky violet-blue scale of great size, this longsword's silvery edge gleams like starlight and cuts through armour as if it doesn't exist -- and its bearer is highly regarded by dragonkind, who may grant access to their starlit Concordances.
05. Celebrant: A crystal bell the length of one's forearm, narrow and glittering; while the faceted blade of its clapper looks like a shortsword, how awkward to strike with it? No matter. Celebrant's chiming heals allies -- and slices bloodless wounds in the corrupt -- who can hear it.
06. Old Memory: A broad shortsword of mottled stone, its surface covered in pictograms and stylized figures. Each sapient being killed by Old Memory leaves a record of their most significant life's moment in the blade, accessible by its wielder. It was, once, a sword of ritual death.
07. Temporalis: This slender rapier, of an unknown silver-copper metal -- only seen at edges and hilt -- flushes with the colours of the sky as day becomes night and day again, while the pommel's orb shows the phases of the moon.
08. The Hound: More of a large dirk than a shortsword, a broad, bellied blade engraved with a running dog on either flat. Touched to any object in someone's possession for a week or longer, will "lead" in the direction of the owner within 10 miles.
09. Nine Lives: A gift from the Queen Of Cats, of any size and shape; but always the colour of smoke, with a row of nine golden-green cat's-eye cabochons piercing through the blade. Nine Lives will bring its bearer back from the brink of death nine times, a jewel greying each time -- on the ninth, the Queen arrives for her due.
10. Rathead: A unremarkable knife that can wound the most unearthly of creatures. With a Rathead on your person, one can squeeze (including clothes and the Rathead) through any space one can fit your head through, no matter how impossible it seems.
