What's happening? Sure enough, there's an outbreak of the undead in a prominent family's communal burial ground and warren-catacombs.
The Mistleglory clan isn't known for necromancy or diabolism or the like -- though they are known for their killer design work in textiles -- and haven't made any recent enemies (that the family head is aware of), so this is all perplexing as well as upsetting.
The zombies (which will shortly be followed by more skeletal ancestors and some more incorporeal, deadly dead as the nights tick by) are rising because a psionically-talented thief, a member of the local guild, saw a convenience in slipping into the private necropolis and depositing their blood-soaked and ill-gotten gains in an unused burial shaft. Imprinted with the murder echo and a pile of despair into the bargain, the cloak-wrapped bundle of jewellery and cryptic political missives is slowly seeping a malign influence through the burying ground and stirring the dead Mistleglory scions to restless violence. Locating the loot and removing or destroying it will solve the issue permanently; otherwise, the dead will just keep getting up again as long as they can.
The Mistleglories will be greatly appreciative if effort is made to keep desecration of their dead relatives down to a dull roar, but are aware that it's not likely possible to avoid it altogether.
