This month's RPG Blog Carnival is "Small Gods, Saints and Minor Divinity" --
Find yourself ...
Wandering the borders of the fields or the zigzags of roofed-over alleyways;
threading along a faded forest trail or mountain path;
out on the scarps on a rocky beach;
deep in a dusty, long-filled necropolis;
... all these and more may have a tiny shrine, or two, or many, tucked away. A place of gathered brick or weathered wood or carefully stacked and fitted stones, daubed with paint and small votives.
Local divinities, ancestors and half-forgotten saints of such shrines respond to heartfelt pleas and meaningful offering: a copper or a precious biscuit from a desperate waif means much, fountains of gold carelessly tossed mean very little indeed. As one becomes more in life, devotion to such powers of the small means less receiving divine gifts and more returning the faith -- such as by creating more such little shrines.
A handful of the small divine
01. Vavrek: Saint of the honest scales, called on for fair transactions and justice against deceitful market practices
02. Burnpaw, Vigilant Guardian: Shepherd dog become guardian saint, benefactor of the lost and the unjustly hunted
03. Clarity: A numina of a single simple mountain spring, once; now small god of many more such springs, and the divining of such, and the respite from thirst and illness they provide
04. Bloodied Anna: Hero-deity and honorary ancestor of those forced to war, honoured for her shattering of her battle-shackles and turning of her blade on her unworthy superiors
05. Gentle M'ri: Itinerant healer in life, become sainted refuge of the ill and wounded downtrodden in death; M'ri of gentle hands, hold this frail one safe from death
06. Tourne: The "Saint Of Second Chances", called on and offered to more often as payment after the fact, a promise of certain devotions in return for guidance through troubled waters
07. Winged Song: One bird spirit, or many? It doesn't matter; Winged Song is whispered to by those desperate to carry a message to their lost ones, to feel their presence once again -- or to pass on a message before they lose their own life
08. Greybrother: Defended his tiny rectory and archive to the death; now listening for those archivists, scribes and seekers under duress and exams both
