This month's RPG Blog Carnival is "Small Gods, Saints and Minor Divinity" --
A barn cat leaves rodents in the same place every morning.
No amount of vitriol and shaking fists puts a stop to the nocturnal singer.
Scratches and pawprints, scent-marks and claw-marks, all pointedly placed.
Catkind have their own gods.
01. the White Queen. Regal and silent, form ever-changing save for her immaculate white coat; judge and saviour in equal measure, teacher and rescuer and destroyer.
02. the Black Tom. A dark void in the world, trickster and vengeful scapegoat, keen to hearken to feline hurt and the wrath of betrayal.
03. Hriss, Flame-Touched. Burning bright, flame and charcoal and ashen-pawed; bringing safe passage through the fires literal and otherwise and a swift oblivion to those the fires catch.
04. Aaow, Moon. Luminous of eye and patched in white and grey and cream, ever-changing in cycles; turner of seasons, bringer of plenty and poor lot, whispering gifts of stealth and cunning.
05. K'fft, Sun. Burly and beatific, generous and generative, until crossed; then the sorching of drought and poor hunting and crushed spirits rains down from paws like polished copper.
06. Miy, Wisp. Thin and yearning, mottled in white and browns, always listening with ears and whiskers, patron of the abandoned and down on their luck; just give it one more day.
07. Prri, Soft-Pawed. A glimpse of bronze, a hint of spotted pattern; cat-magic and cat-charms falling from chittering jaws and pooling in a knowing gaze.
08. Riian, Patience. Of all coats, all colours, all kinds; the purr in the darkness, the tongue licking fears away, the sharpness under velvet defending kit and kin against nightmares big and small.
09. Niorr, Wild-Earth. Brindled, heavy-pawed, shaggy, sharp of countenance; survival is paramount, teach what you learn, but they stand on their own once they learn it.
10. Arriow, Bright-eye. Agile, acrobatic, to say nothing of that sonorous trill or sleek tipped coat; calling to all to sing, to make merry, to find each other, to celebrate.
11. Hrrow, Lair-Fury. Tattered of ear and long of claw, tabbyed tail a bottle brush of eternal enmity, coat lined with the scars of countless battles for place, territory and pride; tenacity before victory.
12. Murrun, Silence. A glimpse of a soft grey coat, a glance from a fathomless gaze; to guide to the end, and the eternal quiet, and an eventual beginning.
It's rare, certainly, for one not of catkind to follow a feline god.
Far less unknown for feline divinity to notice when a deed's been done to help -- or harm -- one of their little siblings, and to act accordingly.
