Not actually a wolf that anyone has seen, though she (most usually she) sports a wolf's tattered grey ears poking through the coils of her fair and root-tangled hair.
A wolf's-bane is one of the creations most requested of the Starveling Wolf, nonetheless -- for Vashak is a spinner of faeriecraft, a weaver and unraveller of enchantments and fae blights, and is rare amongst the wild ones for choosing to ply her trade amongst the mortals of the crude earth rather than in some fae soveriegn's service.

(a wise would-be client of Vashak's craft does not press too hard on this. the Starveling Wolf has been known to react ... poorly.)

Attracting Vashak's notice requires a bridge over running water -- one must stand at its centre -- during the new moon, as well as three round pebbles and a square knot tried from roots. She appears, wrapped in her jagged-cut finery, as if condensed from the mournful baying that echoes through the air.

Vashak will create a baneful stone or snare against any creature or individual but birds and their kin; she also weaves whisper-light woolen mantles that repel all rain, and can lift fae blights short of a great lord's utterance. Works against great magics or the crafting of the lords (or birds) require strange materials; and Vashak will always add a hidden weakness or price or warp to Faerie in her work unless one pebble is black.

In return, she expects three new-moon offerings of round cakes containing pebbles and a silver nail with a promise to take up one quest of her choosing. Sometimes she requests a task set against the Dancing Heron or other fae lord instead.

There are no -- or no widely circulating -- accounts of the Starveling Wolf deliberately misleading or ensnaring a client without making her terms clear. There are several of her exacting a pound of flesh from "ungrateful" souls.
